Changing the layout of the classroom can make a difference and help motivate students. In fact, several recent studies have shown that innovative classroom design can actually improve student achievement.
According to a study by researchers at the University of Salford, good classroom design can improve student performance by 25 percent. The study measured how many aspects of classroom design affect student learning, including lighting, noise levels, air quality, furniture layout, flexibility , and storage space.
To expand on this research, the university of California rosier school of education has created an insightful infographic to illustrate different aspects of classroom design and how they affect student learning. While the Salford study is a good start, the infographic brings many similar findings to life in a visual way. Like the Salford study, the USC infographic concludes that students tend to learn better when high-quality classroom design is a major priority for educators.
